Privacy Policy

How we protect and handle your information

Effective Date: January 1, 2024

My Police Reports ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

Information We Collect

When you request a police report through our service, we collect:

  • Personal information: Name, email address, phone number
  • Accident information: Date, location, description, case number (if available)
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, device information
  • Usage data: How you interact with our website

Website Analytics

We use PostHog to understand referring websites, campaign sources, page visits, and whether visitors start or submit a request. Analytics uses a browser identifier and may use cookies or local storage to connect visits. We do not send your name, email, phone number, or accident details to PostHog, and we do not record your form session. If you answer how you heard about us, that category and your standard or expedited selection help us understand our service.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Process your police report request
  • Communicate with you about your request status
  • Contact you regarding your request when you have provided consent
  • Improve our services and user experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

Consent to Contact

Request a free copy of your accident police report in exchange for permission for My Police Reports and its partners to contact you by phone, text message, and email for marketing about your accident, including legal services. This submits a request for later processing; it does not provide a report immediately. Most requests are turned around in one to two business days. This is an estimate, not a guarantee; availability and delivery timing vary. You can also request expedited processing, with potential same-day turnaround depending on availability and processing capacity; it is not guaranteed. By affirmatively accepting the disclosure in our form or through an authorized agent, you give permission for marketing contact from us and our partners, including legal services, by phone (including automated calls), text message, and email. We record the disclosure version and the time we receive that permission. Contact about your request may also include:

  • Updates on your request status
  • Clarification of information if needed
  • Delivery of your police report
  • Follow-up support related to your request

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Law enforcement agencies to obtain your requested report
  • Service providers who assist in our operations
  • Legal authorities when required by law
  • Authorized partners who help facilitate report delivery

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Secure servers and databases
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Limited access to personal information

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we have about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to legal requirements)
  • Opt-out of certain communications

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date."
